Face & Body

Dead Sea Salt Body Scrub

  • 1 cup (250 ml) Dead Sea Salt
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) Hemp Seed Oil or other vegetable oil
  • 30 drops Lemon essential oil
  • 15 drops Orange essential oil
  • 15 drops Grapefruit essential oil
  • Enough unscented Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Castile Soap to bind.

Mix all ingredients in bowl or 2-cup Pyrex measuring cup and spoon into clean wide mouth container. Approximately 1 cup (250 ml). Standing in the shower scrub body from the feet upward with the Dead Sea Salt Body Scrub. Rinse off with water. This body scrub can be made in larger quantities. However, reduce essential oils and keep on checking the scent until it is pleasing to your nose.

Tip: Reuse any wide mouth containers that you may have. Glass containers are not suitable for the shower.

Invigorating Sugar Body Scrub

  • 2/3 cup Fine Raw Cane Sugar
  • 30 ml (2 tablespoons or more) Grapeseed oil, Soy oil or Hemp oil
  • 2 teaspoons unpasteurized honey
  • 2 tablespoons Aloe Vera gel
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
  • 10 drops Tangerine essential oil
  • 4 Rosemary essential oil
  • 4 Juniper Berry essential oil

In bowl combine fine raw cane sugar, oil, honey, aloe vera and vitamin E oil. Add essential oils and stir. This scrub should have the consistency of custard. Add more oil if it is lumpy. Fill large wide mouth plastic jar and seal.

Standing in the shower, scrub body from the feet upward with the sugar scrub and rinse off. Your skin will feel wonderfully soft.

This body scrub can be made in larger quantities. However, reduce essential oils and keep on checking the scent until it is pleasing to your nose.

Tip: Reuse any wide mouth containers that you may have. Glass containers are not suitable for the shower.

Milky Way Bath Salts

  • 260 grams Dead Sea Salt
  • 14 grams (2 tablespoons) Fine Grey Sea Salt
  • 20 grams (1/4 cup) Goat’s Milk Powder
  • 8 Drops Mandarin/Tangerine essential oil
  • 2 Drops Lemon essential oil
  • 3 Drops Grapefruit essential oil
  • 3 Drops Ylang-Ylang essential oil
  • OR
  • 15 Drops Lavender essential oil
  • OR
  • 12 Drops Orange or Grapefruit essential oil

Combine first 3 ingredients in a stainless steel bowl. Stir to blend. Add essential oils. Stir thoroughly to disburse the oils. Cover with plastic wrap. Let sit for 10 minutes. Check on fragrance intensity. If desired, add more essential oils. Fill jars with bath salts. When taking a bath, throw a handful of Milky Way Bath Salts into the tub and enjoy!

Tip: Reuse any wide mouth containers you may have. Avoid glass in the bathtub area.

Body Wash

  • 1 cup Distilled water
  • 1/2 cup Dr. Bronner’s Pure Liquid Castile Soap, unscented
  • 1 tablespoon Grapeseed or other vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon Aloe Vera gel
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable glycerin
  • 1 teaspoon Xanthan gum
  • 3 grams Calendula flowers or petals, dried
  • 6 Ylang-Ylang essential oil
  • 6 Mandarin/Tangerine essential oil
  • 1 Drop Black Pepper essential oil
  • 1 Drop Clove essential oil

Make a herbal infusion (tea) with calendula flowers and distilled water. Allow to steep for 8 hours or overnight. Heat infusion in hot water bath until fairly hot. Transfer to blender. Add xanthan gum. Caution: Never fill the blender to the top with hot liquid. The pressure in the container could blow the lid off. Only fill it partially and keep your hand on the lid. Blend until gelled. Transfer to a large glass measuring cup and allow to cool down until warm. Add oil, vegetable glycerin and aloe vera gel. When cooled down completely add essential oils and pour into bottle.

Tip: Sanitize and reuse commercial body wash and shampoo bottles. This recipe can easily be doubled. So if you like it, make a double batch. If you do not have the above essential oils, citrus and/or lavender essential oils are pleasing either by themselves or combined.

Hair

Pure Shampoo

Yield – Approximately 450 ml

  • 300 ml Distilled water (for rosemary infusion)
  • 110 ml Dr. Bronner’s Pure Liquid Castile Soap, Unscented
  • 2 tablespoons Aloe Vera gel
  • 1 teaspoon Shea Butter or Coconut Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Grapeseed oil or other vegetable oil
  • 3 grams organic Rosemary, dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon Xanthan Gum
  • 15 Drops Lavender or Juniper essential oil
  • 5 Rosemary essential oil

Make infusion with dried rosemary and allow to steep for 8 hours or overnight. Reheat infusion until fairly hot. Transfer to blender and add xanthan gum. Keep hand on lid and blend until gelled. Using spatula pour into bowl. Add shea butter, grapeseed oil and aloe vera gel. Allow to cool down. When lukewarm add essential oils. Pour into bottle and cap.

Tip: Sanitize and reuse commercial shampoo bottles. This recipe can easily be doubled. Use 20 Drops Lavender or Juniper essential oil and 8 Drops Rosemary essential oil when doubling the recipe.

Hair Rinse

Yield – 200 ml

This gets any remaining soap out of your hair. It makes your hair look nice and shiny.

  • 150 ml Distilled water
  • 50 ml organic Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 10-15 drops Rosemary, Lemon or Lavender essential oil

Combine ingredients in bottle and shake. Use each time after washing your hair. Keep your head back when splashing the rinse on your hair. Rinse with water. This recipe can be halved.

Tip: Sanitize and reuse commercial shampoo/conditioning bottles.

Nourishing Hair Treatment

This is a very simple treatment that nourishes the hair.

  • 2 tablespoons Jojoba oil, Almond oil or Olive oil
  • 20 Drops Lavender essential oil

Warm ramekin in the microwave. Pour 2 tablespoons oil in the ramekin. Add essential oil. Thoroughly massage the warm oil into your scalp. Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap. Retaining the heat will facilitate the conditioning process. Leave your hair covered for up to 1 hour. Wash your hair as usual for a shiny result.

For Babies & Children

Gentle Rain Baby Wash

Yield – Approximately 450 ml or just under 2 cups

  • 1 cup Distilled water (for calendula infusion)
  • 1/2 cup Dr. Bronner’s Pure Liquid Castile Soap, unscented
  • 1 tablespoon Calendula oil or Sweet Almond Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Aloe Vera Gel
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable Glycerin
  • 1 teaspoon Xanthan Gum
  • 3 grams organic Calendula flowers or petals, dried

For newborns: 8 drops Lavender or 4 drops Chamomile essential oil

2 months or older: 12 drops Tangerine/Mandarin essential oil

Gentle Rain Baby Shampoo

Yield – Approximately 450 ml or just under 2 cups

  • 300 ml Distilled water

  • 2 tablespoons Aloe Vera Gel
  • 1 teaspoon Shea Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Calendula oil or other vegetable oil
  • 3 grams organic Chamomile flowers, dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon Xanthan Gum
  • 15 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 4 drops Chamomile essential oil

Make infusion with calendula petals and distilled water. Allow to steep for 8 hours or overnight. Heat infusion au bain marie until fairly hot. Using spatula transfer to blender. Add xanthan gum. Keep hand on lid and blend until gelled. Transfer to a large glass measuring cup or bowl. Add shea butter, oil and aloe vera gel. Add essential oils when lukewarm. Pour into bottle and cap. Approximately 450 ml or just under 2 cups.

Chest Cold Ointment

Yield – Approximately 125 ml or 1/2 cup of ointment

For babies 2 months or older!

  • 47 grams Cocoa Butter
  • 30 ml or 2 tablespoons Grapeseed oil
  • 7 drops Eucalyptus essential oil

Place cocoa butter and grapeseed oil in Pyrex measuring cup in hot water bath. Add essential oils when completely melted. Pour immediately into jars or tins and cap. Allow to solidify without moving the jars or tins. Apply to chest and breathe deeply. This soft salve will promote open breathing. Recipe can be doubled.

A great gift for a baby shower!

For The Home

Lavender Linen Water

Yield – Approximately 650 ml

Does anybody still iron out there? This will give a lovely scent to your shirts. Can also be misted onto your pillow for a restful sleep.

  • 2 1/2 cups Distilled Water
  • 3 tablespoons Witch Hazel Extract
  • 100 drops Lavender essential oil

Using a funnel, put witch hazel extract in a large dark glass bottle. Add lavender essential oil. Add distilled water. Use 125 ml bottles with atomizers.

Tip: This recipe can be halved. It makes a lovely gift for family and friends. Sanitize and reuse our Refreshing Toner bottles for this recipe.

Uplifting Air Freshener

Yield – Approximately 250 ml or 1 cup

This is a wonderful air freshener to mist into the air just before your guests arrive…

  • 175 ml or 3/4 cup Distilled Water
  • 60 ml or 1/4 cup Witch Hazel Extract
  • 12 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 7 drops Lemon essential oil
  • 5 drops Geranium essential oil
  • 3 drops Ylang-Ylang essential oil

Dissolve the essential oils in the witch hazel extract. Add distilled water and blend. Pour in a bottle with an atomizer top.

Spring/Summer Essential Oil Blend

  • 10 drops Lemon essential oil
  • 4 drops Geranium essential oil
  • 3 drops Petitgrain essential oil
Autumn/Winter Essential Oil Blend

  • 8 drops Sweet Orange essential oil
  • 3 drops Cypress essential oil
  • 4 drops Geranium essential oil

Health

Chest Cold Ointment

  • 47 grams Cocoa Butter
  • 30 ml or 2 tablespoons Grapeseed oil
  • 7 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
  • 3 drops Peppermint essential oil
  • 2 drops Lemon essential oil

Mouth Wash

Yield – Approximately 250 ml or 1 cup

  • 1 cup Distilled Water
  • 2 teaspoons Vegetable Glycerin
  • 1 teaspoon Witch Hazel Extract
  • 1 teaspoon Aloe Vera Gel
  • 8 drops Spearmint essential oil
  • 1 Clove essential oil

Bring water to a boil in a saucepan. Remove saucepan from the heat. Allow to cool down to a comfortable temperature. Add vegetable glycerin, witch hazel extract and aloe vera gel. Let cool to room temperature. Add essential oils and bottle.

Tip: Sanitize and reuse our blue glass bottles. Either a lotion pump or an atomizer can be used for this mouth wash.

Pets

Dog Shampoo

Yield – Approximately 750 ml or 3 cups

  • 500 ml or 2 cups Distilled Water
  • 250 ml Dr. Bronner’s Pure Liquid Castile Soap, unscented
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame or Sweet Almond Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Aloe Vera Gel
  • 10 drops Lavender essential oil
  • 2 drops Cedarwood essential oil
  • 1 drop Lemongrass essential oil
  • 3 capsules Odourless Garlic Capsule

Combine distilled water and liquid soap. Add oil and aloe vera gel. Stir to combine. Add essential oils. Break open garlic capsules and add to mixture. Stir to combine.

Tip: Sanitize and reuse commercial shampoo bottles.

Fancy Flea Bandana

  • 4 Odourless Garlic Capsules
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vodka or Gin
  • 1 drop Cedarwood essential oil
  • 1 drop Lemongrass essential oil
  • 1 drop Lavender essential oil
  • 1 drop Thyme essential oil

Fold bandana diagonally up to the last fold. Put vodka or gin in a small bowl or ramekin. Add essential oils. Break garlic capsules and squeeze contents into the essential oil mixture to blend. Drizzle over one side of bandana and fold over. Allow to dry before putting around your pet’s neck. Fold and store in a small zippered sandwich bag if not using right away. The flea bandana will remain effective for 1 month.
